Just Add Salt?  The New Way that Salt is Harming Our Health

Posted by: TyentUSA On January 23, 2018 7:00 am

Something else has been identified as a potential health hazard in our water.  To add to the cocktail of potential contaminants that flow out of taps across America, salt has recently been identified as the latest water worry.

Do you really need more salt?
How Our Soil Gets Salty

Increased use of road salt is a major cause, as is mining, fossil-fuel production and the use of some fertilizers.  The salt seeps into the ground where excessive sodium dislodges the

A Raw Deal?

Posted by: TyentUSA On January 18, 2018 12:00 pm

The latest trend that seems to be gathering attention in 2018 is the craze for drinking so-called “raw water.”

Raw Water is not necessarily pure water.

When a small, Oregan-based start-up company called Live Water started selling “pristine mountain spring water” to people in the San Francisco area, they tapped into the fashionable notion that the more “natural” something is, then the better for you it will be.

What is “Raw Water”?

Raw water is, quite simply, water that springs

Posted by: TyentUSA On January 4, 2018 12:00 pm

It’s that time of year again!  The tinsel is packed away, the present buying frenzy is but a distant memory and our thoughts turn to New Year resolutions.

How many of us feel like exactly like this, post-Christmas?
What Do You Want to Change?

It’s easy to be blasé about making resolutions, and lots of people don’t bother on the basis that if we want to change something, then we should get on and do it, instead of waiting for

Happy New Year – Guaranteed!

Posted by: TyentUSA On January 2, 2018 7:00 am

Before Christmas, one of my young nephews was desperate (in the way that only a 7 year old boy at Christmas can be) for a particular toy.

We hope you survived Christmas better than this!
Thanks Santa!

A large number of painstakingly written letters and notes to Father Christmas that politely requested this small, brightly colored object were posted and stuffed up the chimney.  On Christmas morning, amid shouts and whoops of happiness, came the most ecstatic one, as my

Sandbranch: The Town Without Water

Posted by: TyentUSA On December 21, 2017 5:59 pm

There has never been running water here.  Some of the dwindling number of residents, all of whom live in poverty, recall that there were wells up until around 30 years ago, where locals could draw water. Those wells are now dry or contaminated.  People who live here have to make a seven-mile journey to buy water or depend on donations made to the local Baptist church.

Welcome to Sandbranch, just 14 miles southeast of Dallas, the fifth wealthiest city

Drinking Plastics – Why Our Water Infrastructure Just Can’t Cope (Plastics Series: Part III)

Posted by: TyentUSA On October 19, 2017 12:00 pm

We recently looked at the plastics that we unknowingly drink when we crack open a fresh bottle of water or turn on the tap.  America is the world leader in plastic fiber contamination, with a horrifying 94% of nationwide samples testing positive.  India and Lebanon are the closest runners-up; but for now, the dubious honor of topping the plastic fiber contamination table belongs to us.

Sometimes being first isn’t so great…
Plastic is Not Fantastic
